On Endings
As time passes and the end of the crowdfunding grows near, I can’t happen but marvel at everything that has happened. It’s been a wild ride and for everyone involved, we appreciate all the work that you put in. The hardest thing about a crowdfunding campaign is to get the word out there. And to all our supporters who took the time to talk about it, to tweet about it, and to just make people aware of it, thank you. Without you guys none of what we accomplished would be possible.
To all our trolls, thank you for providing a constant stream of comments to keep the dialog flowing. People often ask why I respond to trolls I find with a name search. The key reason is that whenever I do, more people hear about the production, which means more donations. Without you critics of the Internet, we would have soon been forgotten. Your anger and drama kept the project alive and for that I salute you.
But alas like all good things, my time must come to an end. I’m taking a step back for two reasons. One as I keep telling people, I don’t get paid to respond to trolls on twitter. This isn’t my job, and I don’t want it to be. I don’t want to be dependent on having fans that support me, I would prefer to have my own opinions even if they don’t connect with that of the community. And quite frankly I make more money at my day job.
The second is that right now my honor is one the line. We are building a business together with our backers, and for us to continue with future contests that game must be a success. As such I need to spend sometime away from cracking funny one liners and commenting on post to do the boring work that makes a production happen.
But we’d still like to provide a list of thank yous to everyone that helped out.
We’d like to thank skepchick.org for being the first major feminist website to cover the game design contest. Their small link provided the majority of our starting traffic.
We’d like to thank http://armedgamer.com/ for doing the very few review of the project before we were even taking funds. His help was really important and he helped Matt get through his first interview.
We’d like to thank Internet Aristocrat for getting the word out about the production. Although it wasn’t the best situation his traffic really started the ball going.
We’d like to thank @AdamBaldwin for supporting us, and our mission as well as all of #GamerGate, and for being great on television. Keep making it so, I can keep watching it.
We’d like to thank http://www.cinemablend.com/ for getting the word out multiple times, especially during the darker parts of the campaign. You guys have been great.
We’d like to thank the Cliqist for writting not one, not two but three very fair articles on the entire process and they’ve been incredibly helpful.
We’d like to thank http://apgnation.com/ for hosting an article about us and our project that brought us great traffic.
We’d like to thank @Totalbiscuit and @Boogie2988 for their support in tweeting about our cause. Those gestures are really important for getting our voice out there.
We’d like to thank every podcaster who did an interview with us. From Honey Badger Brigade to Nerd to the Third Power it all helped and discussing the project with people helped to set up the situation.
We’d like to thank Hyraphax who has been handling the Twitch and the Streaming, which is vitally important when an old guy is trying to get thing working. He’s been great throughout this entire production.
We’d like to thank Press Fart To Continue for hosting our story as well as the 4 hours streamathon when the site went down.
But most of all we’d like to thank /v/, 4chan, 8chan and Vivian James who throughout the entire campaign have been nothing but supportive. This is your victory as much as ours and we thank you for it. People wouldn’t have heard about us without your efforts, and this project would not be possible without your contributions.
